NEW DELHI — Following the government's announcement of strict domestic austerity measures on oil and foreign exchange, officials confirmed the Prime Minister is doing his part to manage the crisis by immediately departing on a five-nation diplomatic tour.
"The leader is deeply concerned about the 13 Indian ships and 340 seafarers currently stuck due to the Strait of Hormuz blockade," a Ministry spokesperson told reporters on Tuesday. "That is why he has graciously appended a comprehensive three-hour stopover in the UAE to resolve the entire West Asian conflict before his flight proceeds to Europe."
Defending the cost of the multi-country expedition during a domestic energy shortage, the administration stressed the critical necessity of maintaining scheduled appearances. Records indicate the Prime Minister visited Italy for a summit in 2024 and determined the nation required another immediate visit in 2026 to ensure the continued strengthening of bilateral ties. A previously cancelled 2025 trip to Norway has also been carefully rescheduled into the current itinerary to maximize the optics of active diplomacy.
"While citizens endure the immediate pain of fuel and foreign exchange rationing, they can take comfort in knowing the government is projecting a very active image abroad," the spokesperson added, confirming that the actual long-term strategy for ending India's vulnerability to West Asian oil shocks would not be discussed during the three-hour layover.
