GUWAHATI — State officials gathered Tuesday to celebrate a Rs 2.35 crore legal export of agarwood chips to West Asia, declaring the single 112-kilogram shipment definitive proof of an impending Rs 50,000 crore economic revolution.
The combined dispatch of 100 kg to Saudi Arabia and 12 kg to the United Arab Emirates represents the culmination of the Assam Agarwood Promotion Policy, introduced in 2020. "We have successfully navigated six years of statutory clearances to move this initial batch," said a government spokesperson, standing before a presentation detailing the 21,277-to-1 ratio between the state's projected industry value and its actual realized scale. "The regulatory framework is now proven."
Representatives from the MJI Group and local planters' associations praised the development, noting that successfully turning a 2020 policy brochure into a cargo manifest in 2026 meant industrial-scale wealth was practically already in the bank.
"This Rs 2.35 crore shipment proves the Rs 50,000 crore market is real," said an official from the promotion board. When asked when farmers, nurseries, and distillation units waiting for a mature export chain might see the remaining Rs 49,997.65 crore, the official confirmed the matter is under consideration and subsequent 112-kilogram shipments will be approved in a phased manner.
