FLORIDA — Organizers of the Barbie Dream Fest confirmed Monday they will issue full refunds to attendees who paid up to $450 for an event that delivered a grey convention center backdrop and a plastic pouch containing one bottle of hand sanitizer, while expressing confidence in their ability to host similarly underwhelming experiences in the future.

The festival, marketed as an immersive celebration of the iconic doll brand, featured empty halls, minimal decorations, and what organizers described as "a curated selection of promotional items," which attendees identified as a single bottle of Barbie-branded hand sanitizer in a clear plastic bag.

"We heard the feedback loud and clear," said a spokesperson for the event production company, reading from prepared remarks. "Attendees expected an experience commensurate with the ticket price, and we delivered exactly what we planned to deliver, which is why we're issuing refunds."

The spokesperson added that the company had already begun preliminary planning for next year's event, which will feature "lessons learned from this year's successful learnings process." When asked what specific changes would be implemented, the spokesperson said the team was "currently in discussions about what those discussions might include."

Several attendees reported paying premium prices for VIP packages that promised exclusive access to special areas, which turned out to be the same convention center halls accessible to general admission ticket holders, distinguished only by a handwritten sign reading "VIP Section" taped to a folding table.

"The hand sanitizer was actually pretty good," said one attendee who had driven six hours to attend. "I've been using it all week. I guess that's something."

Organizers confirmed that early bird tickets for the 2025 Barbie Dream Fest are now available for purchase, starting at $475, and include a promise of "an elevated experience that builds upon the foundation established this year." The swag bag for next year's event will contain two bottles of hand sanitizer, according to promotional materials.
