JALANDHAR — Local law enforcement has urged residents to dismiss localized panic following a deafening sound near a sensitive military zone, officially attributing the event to an Activa scooter that spontaneously erupted just one day before the Chief Minister's scheduled Shukrana Yatra visit.
"It is far too early to say whether a blast has taken place," a police official told reporters gathered near the charred remains. "Prima facie, the facts are that a parked scooter simply caught fire in a highly acoustic manner, producing a loud sound that eyewitnesses have incorrectly interpreted as an explosion."
The state's border districts have a documented history of such robustly energetic anomalies. In 2022, authorities recorded several "low-intensity" incidents targeting police infrastructure in Gurdaspur and Amritsar, followed by a 2023 event at an Amritsar police station where cross-border elements allegedly caused severe damage to parked vehicles. Opposition politicians have routinely attempted to categorize these recurring localized combustions as systemic security failures.
"The government's law and order record remains impeccable," the official continued, assuring the public that any further explosions heard ahead of upcoming elections would also be promptly identified as routine scooter malfunctions.
