CHENNAI — A local Member of the Legislative Assembly completed a grueling 15-minute neighborhood walk on Tuesday, where he graciously listened to members of a Residents' Welfare Association explain how they had successfully bypassed his office to replace the local municipal corporation.

Flanked by photographers, the official nodded thoughtfully while inspecting the 15 CCTV cameras, three rainwater recharge wells, and private traffic management system that residents had fully self-funded. The self-reliance initiative reportedly began after 43 identical written requests to the zonal office regarding unauthorized parking and chronic flooding went unanswered since 2021.

"It is always wonderful to see active citizen participation," the representative said, instructing an aide to take a photograph of him pointing approvingly at a transformer enclosure the neighborhood paid for last July. "When the administration and the public work together—specifically, when the administration ignores all correspondence and the public pays for absolutely everything out of pocket—the results are truly world-class."

At press time, the official had reportedly assured the gathering that their remaining requests regarding street lighting would be swiftly forwarded to a newly formed committee, which is scheduled to begin preliminary assessments shortly after the next state election.
